San Bernardino Council Supervisor Visits Area’s Newest Retirement Community—The Village at Redlands

Redlands, CA January 14, 2009— San Bernardino’s newest Council Supervisor, Neil Derry, visited The Village at Redlands to get a first-hand look at the new construction and programs that continue to develop at Redlands premier senior retirement community. Mr. Derry toured the 20-acre project and had lunch with residents in the beautiful dining room, overlooking a view of the exquisite snow-capped mountains.

Mr. Derry met with Troy Vugteveen, Executive Director and Board members of The Village at Redlands to see for himself what so many people are raving about. This 20-acre retirement community, located on the corner of 5th St. and Wabash in east Redlands, has completed the first of four luxury apartment buildings, and is currently at full capacity. The 30 new cottages are filling fast, but still have openings for those interested in a more traditional style home.

Mr. Derry was especially impressed by the facility’s recent acquisition of a new bus, equipped with a wheel chair lift and customized contour seating, for residents’ added comfort.  The bus is just one of many “care” services that has been added to programs at The Village at Redlands. The residents also expressed their excitement about the new, state of the art, 24-hour emergency call system that provides added security for the residents, both inside their apartment or cottage, as well as the other campus buildings and indoor common areas.

Mr. Derry took special interest in the fact that although The Village at Redlands, a premier retirement community, offers great services and activities, the Board of Directors continues to focus on providing housing opportunities for those who would not otherwise be able to afford accommodations at The Village

According to Troy Vugteveen, “The Board has always focused on making this a loving, caring, and sharing community that is built on faith, hope and love. Part of this mandate includes providing some housing opportunities for those that may need a subsidized rental rate.”
